MARITIME NZ

The World's Longest Safety Briefing.

New Zealand boaties, especially males under 40, view authority figures as untrustworthy and uncool. Maritime NZ needed to drive home the three water safety rules in a way they wouldn’t dismiss. Enter Radio Hauraki, the legendary station born at sea when pirate DJs broadcast music illegally. For Summer ‘24, we took the Hauraki pirates back to sea for a 3-hour live show, turning their broadcast into the world’s longest water safety briefing. Packed with humour and lad jokes, the show made life-saving advice entertaining and relatable. The result? A new generation of safe pirates ready to respect the water (and a couple of creative awards for our trouble).
